Uggghhh! I have been off focus for a couple of weeks now. I can feel it in my body and unfortunately I know I will see it on the scales too. Don't you just hate gaining when you had been doing so good? I have been faithfully counting my Weight Watchers points and being so "good". Awww...then life squeezes in...oh my!
It got me thinking...how do you stay focused when everything in your life is off kilter? After praying and some soul searcing, I figured these two things out for sure...
- I can't over dramatize the way life is:
- Life is going to happen. We all have things that sneak up on us in our lives. However for me, if it doesn't go according to my well laid plans then I have to be flexible to regroup. If everything is okay with my relationship with God and my relationship with my family then I am really okay. Curb the overactive dramatization; it gives me an excuse to get off track, which I do not need!
- If "everything" feels off kilter, WW can be a stablizing factor:
- Instead of WW being the first thing that gets thrown off, it should and can be one of the solid, dependable things in the midst of a chaotic situation. I need to trust it to work even when things are difficult around me. I can't say "Well, that's just great, things aren't going as planned this week, I guess I'll just start tracking again next week." Then the entire week goes by and I have wasted an opportunity to at least maintain my weight loss if not lose some. Instead I throw the proverbial baby out with the bath water and I am sitting in a no good situation.
So here I am...refocusing. I tracked my breakfast...though I can't bring myself to track my weight...I don't even want to know. But like I tell all my WW buddies, it is better to know that not to know, so weigh I must and track it I must.
Ideally, I won't lose focus again, realistically it may happen; but I will catch it sooner and will go longer in between occurences. Afterall, that is what a healthy lifestyle is, one good choice followed by another good choice followed by another good choice...well, you get the picture:)!
Blessings to you today...stay focused!
We all start new beginnings many times in life. Several times I have started something new only to not finish it, to get frustrated and stop early, or to work hard to find success, only to fall short. But in all those starts I have found one universal truth, it is better to start and fall short than to not start at all.
I have worked to lose weight since I was in 4th grade, this was the first time I became aware of the fact I was a little bigger than everyone else. While with some encouragement and self esteem building, I probably would have been okay. I instead turned to food for comfort and found myself ensnared by a habit that hurt more than it helped.
So I recently started a journey again, I am working to lose weight, get healthy and have a lifestyle that is full of good choices. I am determined to succeed this time, I am determined to not get frustrated and quit early, I am determined to see it through until the end. I know I can do it, I know it will be hard, I know I will get frustrated, I know I will have victories and I know I will have set backs but I have started again and I am not going to stop this time, not until my outside more closely resembles what I see of myself on the inside.
Stay tuned...the journey will be amazing...and I am purposed to find joy in every part of it.
